Tim Marback and Steven Hillyer

Tim Marback and  Steven Hillyer’s work explores universal themes found within the human condition through the intimacies of relationships – and how they manifest our core emotions. It also pursues an ongoing search for issues that are inexorably tied to important societal concerns. This allows us – through storytelling – to ask an audience to set aside its beliefs in order to consider both sides of the coin on a polarizing issue. Our hope is that people will walk away from the experience with a reconsideration of their own position on the subject, and perhaps with a new understanding of it.

Our first feature film, The Event, which starred Academy Award winner Olympia Dukakis, Academy Award Nominee Sarah Polley and Parker Posey, premiered at the 2003 Sundance Film Festival. The film won the prestigious Siegessäule Jury Award at The Berlin International Film Festival and Best Screenplay and Best Feature awards at the Atlantic Film Festival. Olympia Dukakis was also named Best Actress at Outfest Los Angeles the same year. The film was released domestically and internationally by ThinkFilm, and is now available on Netflix and DVD. We are currently developing our next feature film, Just Four Little Letters, which we co-wrote and will produce. Inspired by actual events, the project has received Fiscal Sponsorship from the New York Foundation for the Arts. Olympia Dukakis is attached to play a major role. Additionally, we are developing a stage play, Mend, which we co-authored. The project has received a grant from Great Performances, and is currently under consideration by the 2013 O’Neill Center National Playwrights Conference. In 2011, we directed CapeHouse, a soft-scripted reality hybrid show.
